Head strap reduced eyelid heating in warming eye mask study
A warming eye mask without a head strap transferred more heat to the eyelids than the same mask worn with a strap, according to a study.
In the study, researchers evaluated the Blepha EyeBag warming eye mask using a composite manikin head and thermal imaging after heating the mask in a domestic microwave for 30, 45, and 60 seconds.
With the strap in place, eyelid temperatures were significantly lower, with the upper eyelid averaging 1.4 ± 1.9 °C less and the lower eyelid 2.5 ± 2.2 °C less. Upper and lower eyelids reached similar temperatures overall, and eyelid temperatures increased with longer heating times. Temperatures declined over time after heating at a similar rate regardless of whether the strap was used.
